Use
your hair for a good cause! Greenpeace Philippines, in association with
a number of local salons and barber shops, is collecting hair to help
clean up the Guimaras oil spill.

A gallon of oil will adhere to
a little more than a pound of hair in just two minutes. The best part
is, the hair can be wrung out and reused.

Here's a CNN story on
Phil McCrory, an ingenuous US hairdresser who came up with the
solution. TV Patrol ran a similar feature on local efforts that use
collected human hair to respond to the recent marine catastrophe.

Here's how you can pitch in:
1) GET YOUR HAIR CUT! All branches of Reyes Haircutters and Azta Urban Salon
(there's one on Katipunan and on Metrowalk) are collection centers for
the Greenpeace hair drive, so it might be more convenient if you get
your hair done at those places.

2) Go to your neighborhood barber or hairdresser and inform them of the campaign. They can bring their hair leftovers to any Reyes Haircutters or Azta branches. OR you can take the initiative and bring them there yourself.

Here's the contact info:
Reyes Haircutters main branch (Anonas) - 913 6250 (look for Alex)
Azta Urban Salon Katipunan - 928 4208 (open from 10am-10pm Mondays to Sundays.)

  1. So it really does work? I thought the Coast Guard was worried about hair with chemicals.

Wah, naaawa talaga ako sa Guimaras. I spent a lot of time there during our project and ang ganda talaga ng beaches and reserves. Sobrang nakakahinayang. =(
